Some of last year's top fundraisers were recently honoured at Parliament House by Premier Alan Carpenter---they also got to meet Bosko! The Premier congratulated them on their achievements and even took them inside for a tour of his office. It was a very exciting day indeed, and some of the kids even got their photo in the local newspaper. Looks like reading can even make you famous! Check out Bosko's Gallery here. Visit the WA MS Society website for more information on local activities, fundraising events and research. Part of the money that you raise by doing the MS Readathon, will go towards the 'Fatigue Management Programmes' being run in WA. MS stands for multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable and mysterious disease of the central nervous system. How does the MS Readathon help? The money you collect for the MS Readathon goes directly to the MS Society, to provide services and support for people with MS. Find out more about the MS Readathon here. |
I love the MS Readathon and the fact that it helps someone with MS makes it so much better! I am in grade 6 and love reading so much. I do the MS Readathon every single year. My best friend Jessica does it every year too! I also like doing it for a good cause. I am reading really well at night and day.
Hey kids! Want to help Bosko celebrate his birthday? Simply raise and return $100 by July 18th to go into the draw. Click here for more details The funky students at Leeming Primary School really impressed us with the Reading Rap that they wrote and performed at their recent assembly. I think there are lots of future hip-hop stars there-Check out their cool rhymes!
What's happening in our schools....
Students at Winterfold Primary School had a real treat recently, when Western Force player Scott 'The Spanner' Staniforth was a special guest at their MS Readathon School visit. Scott was a terrific sport and took part in our demonstration of the symptoms of MS.
Boyup Brook District High School has kindly agreed to donate the proceeds from their school social to the MS Readathon! So while they dance the night away, they'll also be helping to improve the lives of people living with multiple sclerosis. Sounds like a great excuse for a big party - way to go, Boyup Brook!
I've noticed a lot of our young readers are being very creative and using internet social groups like Facebook to direct people to their MS Readathon homepage! Now why didn't I think of that? Very clever bunch you are... I spoke to one very smart young fundraiser who gave his father a lovely handwritten letter asking for sponsorship to take along with his receipt book whenever Dad goes away to work up north. Super Dad then asks all of his work mates for a donation! Now this young man is well on his way to earning some great rewards, so why don't you write a letter for your mum and dad to show their friends too? WA's highest fundraiser of last year, Luke, is again working really hard to break his own record. Who knows, he might take out the title again this year, but I know a lot of you have offline donations to submit, so it could be anyone!
Thanks for being such great supporters of the MS Readathon, you are really helping Reading Rocks! Bosko and Jasmyn |
