A very warm welcome to the first Childhood Kidney Support Network eNewsletter.

Cupcakes...tubs of icing...sprinkles...100s and 1000s...balloons - it could only mean one thing - the official launch of the Childhood Kidney Support Network!

Fun was had by all at the Mater Children's Hospital when CKSN conducted their Kidney Kids Create Cupcakes Day. Kidney kids, their parents, nurses, doctors and medical staff enjoyed a great day decorating (and eating!) cupcakes. Whilst the children were very busy spreading icing on cakes, the CKSN team was spreading the word about the network and its services. So thank you to all those families who visited us, enjoyed a cupcake and a cuppa - it was wonderful to meet you all.

A very big thank you must go to CKSN mums, Simone and Vicki, their families and friends who donated a laptop to the hospital for the use of kidney kids and their parents during their stays in hospital.

A similar day will be held at the Royal Children's Hospital later this year.

CKSN aims to enhance the lifestyle, health and wellbeing of children who have chronic kidney disease and their parents through our Parent Support Group Meetings, our Playgroup and our Kidney Kids Programs.

Our Parent Support Group Meetings provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where parents share experiences and advice relating to their children's illnesses and how to live a full and active life despite dealing with kidney disease on a daily basis. These regular get-togethers provide a listening ear, friendship, compassion, encouragement, experience, inspiration, strength and hope. The Kidney Kids program is an exciting fun group for children and teenagers with chronic kidney disease. We co-ordinate events and activities, tell you about great competitions and prizes to be won, the latest movies, music and concerts and fun and interesting websites to visit. These activities are a fun and welcome diversion from dialysis, medications, doctor's appointments and frequent trips to hospital.
