FEATURE ARTICLES

Learning Leaders (New Feature)
In our newsletters we will be featuring a recognised Learning Leader to gain insight in to their strategies for success. We will ask each Learning Leader a series of questions to get some valuable tips.
Our first Learning Leader is Geoff Rip from ChangeLever. To see Geoff's responses - go to Learning Leaders.

Learning Styles Under Attack
Do you know that there are many different learning style models and instruments (said to exceed 100)? Research conducted by the Learning Skills Research Centre (UK) identified 71 different models, of which 13 were categorised as major models because of their popularity and influence.

A detailed evaluation of these 13 models found, inter alia, that "Some of the best known and widely used instruments have such low reliability, poor validity and negligible impact on pedagogy that we recommend in our review that their use in research and in practice should be discontinued." Training for Learning Program

TFL is based on unique research conducted by Professor Sylvia Downs at the Industrial Training Research Unit at Cambridge, and subsequently at the Occupational Research Unit at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology.

Her initial focus was on identifying ways to help individuals improve their learning, with special emphasis on people who had to cope with change in the workplace. Sylvia subsequently investigated why some trainers were more effective than others and what factors were blocking learning.

Based on her research, Sylvia developed highly practical models and techniques that simplify training design and maximise learning. AIPF is fortunate to be able to offer the latest version of this exclusive program, which has been run internationally for more than 15 years. For more information, go to Course Outline.
